Happy birthday, JGL! I don't know the last time I was so aware of a celebrity birthday -- not that he helped matters by being adorable and tweeting about his mommy.

So there are two Steinway fic-things in the to-be-edited queue now, but I am in the mood to write a silly one-off in the next hour or so in celebration of dimples and adorableness. Any prompters? Steinway verse is cool but I welcome other ideas.

p.s. How is it that I have only now created a JGL tag on my journal? HOW.

Snoooooooooow

It is *such* a snow day today.  Please note that I say this as someone who lives in a climate where actual 'school is cancelled' snow days are about once a decade, not because we don't get snow, but because we get so damn much that it takes a huge blizzard to defeat our army of graders and plows and sanders.  (If you don't know what a grader or sander is, you are not a true Canadian.  I'm looking at you, West Coast.)  Anyway, the snow banks are waist-high and we've gotten about 15 cm (6") with 10 or 15 more to come.  The roads are ridiculous.  Thank goodness it's a non-working weekend and my only excursion today was getting out of the way of my house cleaner for two hours in the Starbucks down the snowy road.  Also, I love my snow tires, they're the best invention ever.

Anyway, I'm snugged in with veggie-bean soup made from scratch with no recipe.  It turned out more like stew because I kept finding more vegetables to add and my soup pot got too full.  I'll thin it out as the stew/soup gets eaten up over the next four or five days.  I don't know why I cook so rarely when I like doing it so much.  Actually, I do know, I hate chopping things but I hate frozen things with equal fervour.

Does anyone want a cozy snow day/night ficlet?  SGA or maybe even Inception or Glee or something?  Prompt me and maybe the muse will strike!  That would be fun.

ETA: Links to the ficlets generated:

Team Cocoa (SGA, gen) for [personal profile] perspi

John Isn't Canadian (SGA, John/Rodney -- could be gen, too, if you squint) for [livejournal.com profile] lilyfarfalla

Dirty Word Scrabble (Glee, Kurt/Blaine) for [livejournal.com profile] iykwim

Under the Steinway (Inception, Eames/Arthur) for [personal profile] lately

Heyyyyyyy.

Wow, okay, it's been way too long since I poked my head in here. Suffice it to say, RL has been hectic and fandom has been far away from my mind most of the time. But it is now summer and I have scads of wonderfully free time in which to procrastinate.

My writing brain is atrophied and pathetic, alas. If any of you who still have me flisted and still want to read SGA have mini ficlet ideas I would gladly collect prompts. The only fic ideas I seem to have at the moment are epic and ridiculous.

Also, would welcome any updates of a fannish or personal nature you'd care to share. Sorry I am a lame LJ friend. Working on that.

Oh, flist, I am having one of those itchy restless days where you can't settle to a single task and yet you feel like you want to do *something*. I haven't written a word in months but I'm wondering if I might have a story in me that's causing this annoying sensation. Prompt me? I'll do my best.

p.s. Europe was lovely, saw lots of [livejournal.com profile] sparktastic, and am happy to be at home again. Except for the restless bit.

Other Stories I Am Not Writing

This was going to be a response to [livejournal.com profile] amberlynne's comment but it grew out of control. On the topic of subverting fannish tropes (sort of) and John the non-Sudoku-Master:

As I told [livejournal.com profile] eleveninches once, what I really want to write is the one where John isn't just weirdly good at manipulating Ancient technology -- he's actually *trans-specied*. He's an Ancient trapped in a stupid human body! He's tragically genetically queered! He longs for gray jumpsuits and shifty scientific ethics and the chance to play The Sims with whole human civilizations!

Or, hey! What about the one where John SUCKS at activating a particular Ancient artifact? Like, everyone with the ATA gene can do it except him! And it's an Ancient bean grinder or something so it doesn't *matter* but it's making him batshit insane that he CAN'T DO IT. And he carries it around in his pocket and ducks into supply closets and tries with all his ATA might to get it whirring and the device *ignores* him, the blatant hussy of an Ancient thing, and he's all wounded and bewildered and Rodney has to comfort him with sex. And more Ancient toys.

ETA: Or! OR!

The one where John TRAVELS BACK IN TIME to Ancient Atlantis and discovers so many interesting truths, like:

1) The entire expedition has been bunking up in the children's boarding school part of the city, which is why all their beds are 2 inches long.

2) John is actually not that Ancient and they all think he's kind of adorably dumb and ignorant and they treat him like a kid and muss his hair.

3) The puddle jumpers are actually not fighter shuttles. They are, in fact, Ancient yellow school buses. The cool fighter shuttles are over in the east wing where the expedition hasn't looked yet.

Other fun Ancient facts? Come on, it'd be AWESOME.

And *then* what happened?

Feeling much better now, versus earlier today. Successfully completed grant application budget without needing to claw my own eyes out. Hurray!

Okay, looking over my so-very-sad fic website, I remembered a little fic meme that went around a while back where authors had readers ask 'what happened next' for any of the author's stories. Since I've just indexed my fic, I thought this might be a good time to revisit that fun little exercise.

So!

1. Look at my SGA fic.

2. Choose a story -- one where you always wondered what happened after 'The End', or maybe one where you have your own ideas and want to see if mine match up.

3. Post a comment here with the fic name and any details of your request (which character, which plot point, etc.)

(Optional Step 4. Do the same thing in your journal with your fic!)

I'll answer the first 5 requests I get, maybe more, either with a comment or with a mini-fic answering your question. Whee!

UNDERMISTLETOE SWEET JESUS

Okay, I realize this is becoming an annual tradition for me, but sadly... my [livejournal.com profile] undermistletoe entry is due, oh, TOMORROW. And yeah...nothing. I sit and stare at the blank Word document in mute horror. Woe.

Before I flail and surrender to [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's tender mercies, I thought I would give my flist a try -- inspiration, please? I don't have huge amounts of time before midnight tomorrow but I can probably manage a decent ficlet (5000 words?) given the right idea. Last year the amazing [livejournal.com profile] beeej came to the rescue and the startlingly long The Theory of Acquired Characters was the end result -- so, see, I *can* be manipulated! *hopeful grin*

My prompt is for Harlequin Week: either Expecting His Royal Baby or Rich Man's Vengeful Seduction. Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking either. God! All I have is visions of terrifying mpreg.

So Very Sad.

It's Friday night but I'm working early tomorrow so I'm bored at home. Anyone wanna prompt me? SGA is good, whatever pairing.

*rolls eyes at sad self*
