toomuchplor: (one of those days)
People who are stressed because they procrastinate about doing their jobs? Yeah, those people should be BANNED from trying to make you feel guilty about not being more helpful solving their (THEIR) problems three hours before the deadline.

This grumpy post brought to you by my (all too) real life.

*stomps away*

I have a plaque in my office that says "Procrastination on your part does not mean an emergency on my part." It's right next to my bottle of Ibuprofen and my reminder to pick up booze from the liquor store.

I need one of those! Though since I have a home office it wouldn't really have any impact on anyone else. Sigh.

I so hear you. Gosh . . . do you work at a college or with students, too?

That sucks so much. I hope your day improves after this!

Me too! Actually, the person in question at the moment is my elder (by 10 years) AND my boss but he's in the arts, type B personality, yadda yadda... But yes, I do work with youth a lot and this is an all-too-common situation. The challenge with my boss of course is that I can't be all "tough love" like I am with the kids. It's a little harder to just say, "Wow, that sucks, how are you planning to SOLVE that problem?" when he's expecting you to jump in and help out with his issues.

*headdesk*

But! I did manage to solve his problem anyway. I probably shouldn't have done it. Goddamn guilt.

The very friendly registrar at my tiny little college used to have a sign on her desk that said, "YOUR crisis is not MY crisis."

I have always felt that was a good lesson for life.

Also, way to go you! With the solving things!

There's a similar sign at my work: 'Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.'

SO TRUE.

"YOUR crisis is not MY crisis."

Do you think I could make that my email signature? I'm just thinking, such a sign in my home office would have less impact.

I'm not one, but man. Do I feel like it some days!

This reminds me of my one of my favorite sayings: Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

EXACTLY.

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. I did mine, I shouldn't have to do *yours* as well. That'll tell 'em. And we can still superglue their desk drawers shut...

Regrettably, that'd probably not even slow him down. Perils of the arts sector. I'd have to glue his music folder closed or something. *g*

*HUG* This is so late because I suck and do not read through my friends' LJs carefully enough.

God, I just came over to re-read something from a few weeks ago and your blog is looking amazing! And well, your LJ has always looked awesome, but wow. This design is really adorable.
