So I was randomly selected for a beta account over on Dreamwidth today! You can find me here if you're looking. No plans to migrate at this point, so don't all run at once. *g*
If you haven't heard about it yet -- Billy Bob Thornton was a rude ignorant jerk to one of my favorite CBC radio hosts on my favorite CBC program yesterday. I missed the live interview but caught up on YouTube and it's left me feeling vaguely edgy and defensive. I'm awful with confrontations, and this anxiety seems to have spilled over into the simple act of watching someone I like and respect being forced to deal with this kind of awfulness. On the other hand, way to go Jian -- a real, lovely, Canadian class act. Lots of people were saying they would have ended the (live-to-air) interview early if they'd been in his shoes but I think he did exactly the right thing. *hugs Jian* Love that show.
When I got home from rehearsal tonight my dog ran in circles like an idiot and bit at my hands. It's been so long since he did this "I bite gently because I love" thing that I'd forgotten it used to be part of his routine whenever I got home. Thank goodness he's outgrown it, because it's not that cute when he does it to visitors' hands. But still, the excess energy is probably due to spring and it's a sign that I need to take him for a nice long walk tomorrow after my Good Friday service!

(altho my cynical side says that Thornton is canny enough to know that being an ass on a public radio show gets your band a LOT more publicity than being a nice guy on a radio show)
I don't know, he's obviously reasonably intelligent but I'm not sure I'd credit him with that much wiliness given his behaviour. Oh well, either way he's lost the modicum of respect I may have had for him.
.. I hate confrontations too. Don't even know if I want to listen to this clip, but I'd like to hear how he handled it, so ... *squirms*
I know! *draws hearts around him*
The short version of the interview is that BBT's publicist asked Q to do a "music interview", i.e. not to focus on BBT's acting career, but according to JG anyway it wasn't made clear that this meant he was to make no reference whatsoever to BBT's acting. When Jian introduced him as "actor, screenwriter, director, and musician" and went on to describe music as his first love and stated that BBT had always meant to be a musician and had been "sidetracked" by acting -- then proceeded, I might add, to not mention it again in his direct questions to BBT, which were all exclusively music-related, BBT first played dumb/stoned by refusing to answer the questions, then admitted when pressed that he was unhappy with the introduction. He compared himself to Tom Petty and told Jian he was "instructed not to talk about shit like that". It devolved (on BBT's part) from there but Jian was lovely and calm and kept the interview going against all odds. Asshattery all around.

Seriously. Carmen said "This is what happens when society caters to people who are jerks to begin with!"
