We have these dumb and funny 'History Minutes' on Canadian TV, where we make fun of our past and try and claim things as our own. This is one of my favorites:

In Which Supes is REALLY Canadian

And then there's this:

In Which We Invent Basketball

And this:

In Which We See That Canadian Women Aren't Afraid of Penises

And, yeah. This:

In Which John McRae Cranks Out Some Deplorable Poetry In A Manly Way

And the very best of all:

In Which We Discover That Canadians Are Really the Village People

Heh. I started browsing through these and was amazed by a) how many I remember having seen, and b) how little I actually retained of the information they contain. Go Canadian Heritage Initiative!

haha! Oh, the stuff we learn from the Heritage Minutes! It's amazing how many there are and how much you actually remember!

Off the top of my head, I can remember the Laura Secord one, the one about O Canada, the building of the trans-Canadian railway, the Vikings, the one about the telegram (and train explosion), oh! the one about Quebec politics and religion, and sooooo much more. Hrmm, after looking at the website there are a lot more I remember and a few I haven't seen!

The Superman one might be my favourite. :P

And they all seemed to be powered by either a) big eyed children, b)grimly determined men, or c)heroic women.

Good times.

re:minutes
Thanks so much. I'm in NY (actually The Island of Long)and really needed a lift. When I was younger (so much younger) I had a similar schedule, got really sick and eventually had to reassess my life style. I know this was tough to sit down and do, so again, thank you!
And hang in there...that's an order.

My favourite has always been the Winnie one. You start watching it expecting to know why the bear is named Winnie 'The Pooh', and when it finishes you're thinking 'That's it?'. ^_^

Cool videos! My favorite was the one about Dr. Trout. Although the last one was a hoot!
