Puppy yay!

toomuchplor: (omgyaye!)
It was a long long drive, both ways, but so worth it.

I will post before and after haircut pics tomorrow. In the meantime , I'm just terribly pleased with our decision to take him in. He's bigger than I thought he'd be, only weighing around 13 pounds, but with the bone structure of a bigger dog. He's still pretty skinny under all that fur, poor little guy, but he's put on some weight since my uncle rescued him. He is currently curled up on the floor by the couch where I'm sitting -- the most even-tempered dog I've known, especially for a little dog. For the first 6 hours of the car ride today, he was just curled up in the back seat of the car. Occasionally he'd let out a little whimper -- he was sad to leave my uncle and his dogs -- but he was very good. About 3 hours from home, he got a little more distressed, so [livejournal.com profile] iykwim took over the driving while Sully sat in my lap. He didn't cry after that, but he's a total ridiculous cuddle-butt, practically gluing himself to me and melting there. He's still at the puppyish stage where they feel like they don't have any bones, and with the underbite, he's a lot like an ewok.

He only barks when you ask him to come up for some reason -- but I haven't heard any alarm barking, so I think he's not going to be yappy. He gets a little hyper when he's settled in a place, and he starts play-biting, but never very hard and he's easy to deter. I sat through family dinner with a smug smile on my face because my parents' dogs and my brother's dog were all begging and being obnoxious for the whole meal (they're all half-Pomeranian, they can't help it) and Sullivan just lay in the corner and slept. He also didn't join in the orgy of barking the three half-poms get up to.

And, speaking of orgies, my parents' oldest dog is a neutered male, just a bit bigger than Sullivan. He's never shown any kind of male dominance behavior, since he was neutered young. Anyway, normally he's all "YAY!" with other dogs, and he was cold and rude to Sullivan, which hurt poor little Sully's feelings. But then, after dinner, my parents' dog decided to 'show his dominance' over Sullivan, which he's *never* done before. We were all laughing because we've long suspected that Finnegan (my parents' dog) is gay, but now we have proof. Obviously the stand-offish act was pent-up sexual tension. We were just sitting and watching the two of them, and my brother said, "I wish I knew how to quit you," and we all got the giggles. Sullivan is *so* Jake Gyllenhaal. Brokeback Mountain, doggy-style!

As I wrote that, I was thinking, "Was that Jen?" and I knew you'd correct me if it was.

Hahaha... your icon.

I once caught my older neutered male cat humping my younger male cat - with his tiny little red penis sticking out. I've always joked about them being gay, but now I have proof! Funny, too, because the younger cat is pretty clearly the dominant.

There was a little humping chain going on -- Finnegan on Sully on Friday, which was cute and sort of disturbing all at once.
