OMG Yay.

toomuchplor: (go to sleep mr. eames)
So JGL retweeted someone linking to a song of his with a <3 and there is enough adorbs there to hold me for a long time -- but wait! It gets better! Because the song is apparently something he wrote in college for a French literature class.

...

Am I the only one in paroxysms of glee picturing this? Joe. French. Poetry. Singing. College. IT IS EVERYTHING GREAT IN ONE PLACE. And it leads to amazing fic places!

I mean, first of all, any fic where we get bb!Arthur studying French poetry is destined for greatness. You could have prof!Eames or dorm roommate!Eames (who mocks French poetry, no doubt) or fellow student!Eames (who gets into a battle with Arthur over the last copy of de Musset or whatever and there is antipathy and lust). You could have 10 Things shout-out fic where Arthur pretends to speak French to tutor that sort of thug-looking guy with the tats who is flunking out of French 101.

And then there's Steinway!Arthur, who has to take a 200-level literature class for his degree and chooses French and promptly spends a semester being broody and dark and playing a lot of Ravel and Debussy.

And, since my high school AU!Arthur is rly just a very poorly-disguised Joe avatar, there could be sequel fic in which they are in college together and Arthur gets obsessed with Camus and becomes acquainted with the canon!Arthur yet to come.

IT IS ALL GREAT. *chinhands* ANYTHING ELSE???

I will take ALLL THE STEIWAY Arthur! All of it. Of course, Eames realises Ravel wrote a concerto for the left hand and is all "you know what you can do with the right" *eyebrow waggle* until Arthur is forced to lock him out.

So many dirty jokes for Eames, so little time...

He devotes so much time to them, because Arthur will never say Eames just has to basically exist for him to want to fuck him.

Hahahaha... I love it, especially the subtext that Eames thinks his innuendo is both charming and alluring when in fact Arthur really doesn't find it to be either. OH EAMES.

I miss steinway!arthur!

Aww. Eames would go all starry-eyed! He would be touched by the *romance* of it. He would sidle so close to Arthur and say, "You like me?" and look so pleased and taken aback that Arthur might not even let him leave the room after all.

Indeed, it is all great. French poetry is ridiculously sexy and awesome, and when you add Arthur to the mix it's almost too much. Hooray!

Hahaha, his accent sounds like bad French immersion to this ex-French immersion kid, bless him. This is the kind of French I shout at my choir to stop singing, but Joe makes it charming somehow.

(and I want ALL THE FIC, OKAY. ALL OF IT. *g*)

ME TOO. Why is there no fic-writing button to push at these moments? I'm all wrapped up in angsty Steinway break-up fic, I can't spare the energy for awesome Arthur playing Ravel and longing to see Paris before he dies.

OMG sorry yes you totally did! YOU AVOIDED IT OKAY. Except...that fic was *after* the break-up? And this is the story of the *actual* break-up? I DON'T KNOW WHY I DO THIS EITHER. I should really stick to writing fic that has no plot or conflict. I am happier that way.

Also, there is happy fic! There is! Except stupid me WRAPPED IT IN AN ANGST SANDWICH FOR SOME AWFUL REASON. But happy fic is definitely also on the menu.

It's a terrible (well) frustration, too, because I'm like, BUT, GOOD FIC, WITH CHARACTERS I LOVE, AUGH I COULD SPEND MORE TIME WITH THEM but on the other hand I'm like AAUGH SO NOT SURE I CAN TAKE THE HEARTACHE. so I wibble. *g*

BUT SOMEDAY I WILL BE STRONG AND READ EVERY THING.

MAYBE.

I too have a very low angst tolerance -- hence, I think, Steinway grinding to a halt when I'm forced to write it. There is this annoying thing though, where when you write an epic love story, you're forced to give it some sort of difficulty along the way and that makes for sadness and I have to write through it and want to run awaaayyyyy from the computer and, I don't know, write fic where Arthur is pretending to speak French to get close to that delicious-looking boy who sits in the back of the room and couldn't conjugate "ĂȘtre" to save his damn life.

I APPROVE OF FRENCH-SPEAKING ARTHUR. YES I DO.

(As long as you have it French-picked by myself or anatsuno beforehand. I will not tolerate babbleFrench from you, Missy! <3 )

I do have a Paris hotel story that may require your services, actually. Stay posted. Hee.

BETTER BE OFFENDED THAN UNINTENTIONALLY HAVE EAMES CALL ARTHUR "MY LITTLE CAULIFLOWER" <---sadly not a made-up example.

Hahahaha. That is horrifying. God, I hope I haven't committed any such atrocities...Lately is a full-fledged French Immersion graduate who also speaks German fluently so I put my faith in her, generally, to tell me if I'm way off-track with other languages.

So, at the moment, I'm doing that writer thing where I am just avoiding any sort of French by not including actual dialogue, but here's my one and only bit of French:

"May I introduce my husband," Arthur says in French, very drily indeed. Je vous présente mon mari, just like that.

(This is also from chatfic so it's a bit odd anyway and needs all sorts of love.)

THAT IS VERY CORRECT FRENCH INDEED. LATELY IS NOW FORGIVEN FOR HAVING CALLED ME "CHER" IN CHAT :P

And seriously, I kind of adore the fact that the later Steinway snippets have them married, and we have no idea how that happened :P
