So. Much. Annoying.

My dog has some kind of neurotic stomach flu. He's been up gagging and heaving and snorting and pacing insanely ALL NIGHT. WITHOUT THROWING UP. We have tried outside, we have tried his crate, we have tried sympathy, we have tried ignoring him, we have tried shouting at him, we have tried bland foods, we have tried dog-sized doses of pepto bismol, and NOTHING IS WORKING.

*gnashes teeth*

I just want to sleep for more than 45 minutes without being woken by the sound of puppy heaving! IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK. I'm certain there's nothing seriously wrong with him...he's just feeling barfy and is completely unable to tough it out like a good little solider because he's the wussiest dog in the history of the universe.

*cries*

Never. Having. Children. Dogs are horrible enough.

Okay, when he comes back inside (again again again) I'm crating him up and leaving him to fend for himself in the wild darkness of the living room. I just hope he doesn't decide to seize or die or howl and wake up the whole house. But if I have to try and sleep in the same room with him for another hour I may kill him myself.

Argh! Poor thing.

*sends snugs and tummy-soothing thoughts*

He really is a wuss.

I know, he really really is. I suspect this was partly triggered by the huge trauma of having a dirty bum discovered and cared for at 10:30 p.m. HE WAS WET. AT NIGHT. OMG. *heaves*

Take a note of the symptoms and call your vet. He could be bloating (esp if he is a large dog).

This can be a very serious (deadly) condition.

Thanks for the link... he's just a wee incredibly wussy thing, though. He's just fine this morning (though a bit tired...grrr) and looking at me like, "What? I was feeling a bit off!" *pets him grudgingly* I have the biggest baby in the WORLD for a pet.

I was going to suggest some baking soda in water or maybe mint tea - good for upset people tummies but he seems to have improved a bit. Also, maybe a heating pad or hot water bottle in his dog bed for him to lie on?

Hypochondriac puppy - now that's a new one. Good luck. ::hugs::

Awww.

Poor baby. Don't kill yourself!

Yeah, Sully needs to work up some measure of toughness. I doubt it will kill him.

E-mail me! How are things going with you?

So. Much. Annoying

I'm glad your dog is feeling better but I was reminded by your post of a situation with a dog I had many many years ago.

She started to howl for what was apparently no reason. We were really poor but finally took her to the vet. It turned out she'd eaten a crochet-type rug - she seems to have just started on one loose end of yarn from the rug and couldn't stop or cut the yarn with her teeth before she'd ingested yards and yards of the carpet! Ended up with an operation which cost several hundred dollars, to remove the ingested material - but she would have died, otherwise. So, sometimes seemingly innocuous symptoms mean something is really wrong. In such a case, a vet's advice definitely would bring peace of mind.

Love, max
