Ugh. My body just did that thing where it's like, "La la la Stayfree commercial, feel free to wear white pants and skip through daisies!" And THEN. WITH NO WARNING:

It's that scene from The Shining where the elevator doors open and a huge flood of red explodes out into the corridor, and I'm like, "WTF BODY?!" and it's like *shrug*.

Seriously, my bathroom looked like an episode of Dexter five minutes ago. If I'd KNOWN I'd have covered the room in plastic sheeting for protection. And maybe invested in some of those crime scene booties and coveralls.

This TMI moment is brought to you by probable anemia (which is the the usual culprit for me when this happens.)

Urg. Yeah, the Elevator scene is pretty much my default setting for the first two days of my periods. WTF BODY INDEED. WHO DESIGNED THESE THINGS?

Yeah, the Elevator scene is pretty much my default setting for the first two days of my periods.

SUCKS. My body used to be a little more consistently horrific the first few days, and while I'm glad it's calmed down a little it's now onto this SURPRISE! ATTACK! thing, where I'm lulled into a false sense of security by several really light days and then The Shining. And not every time, either; sometimes it's more steady. BAH. Poorly designed indeed.

Nope and nope... I don't have proper symptoms for either, and my doctors have never been able to properly figure this one out in spite of exams and ultrasounds and tests. I was the one who finally noticed that the lower my hemoglobin got, the more I bled. (This delightful observation brought to me by months-long periods as a teenager which would snowball on me until my doctor was like OMG your hemoglobin is BAD.) When I did some research, I found that one of the causes of heavy menstrual bleeding was anemia, which -- yes. Self-perpetuating after a certain point. So nowadays if I take iron pills during my period I tend to stave off the worst of it. I also can't donate blood -- borderline anemic at the best of times, yay.

Yikes, that sounds seriously sucky & inconvenient! My friend calls those "riding a sheep" days 'cause they just don't make pads for the situation. I'm lucky I'm on birth control pills & can just string 'em together for 2-4 periods a year....
